I think good dreaming is what leads to good photographs.
Wayne MillerThe photo was taken on a foggy evening in late November. I was driving around the surrounding villages and towns. I often pass this house during the day, but it only caught my eye in the dark. I pulled over to the side of the road because a fire engine was coming from the opposite direction with its lights on. The reflection of the lights in the drops on the side window was all that was left when it passed. I found that interesting.
This work is part of a larger series of photographs entitled 'Stills from Non-existent Movies'. I have been working on this series for several years and I'm constantly adding new images. I am driven by a desire to capture the moments in which ordinary situations take on a cinematic, narrative quality. The photographs are mainly taken at night using natural light sources.
When I look at this house and this red reflection of light, I feel a sense of unease, even danger. A photograph doesn't always have to have a story, but this one does and it's not clear if it ends well.
