The world is full of endless things. And there are many beautiful things. And people have a talent for not noticing it.
Saul LeiterSaul Leiter's quote sums up my perception of the reality around me. Leiter himself took his most famous photographs near his New York apartment; this photo, on the other hand, is 1,500 kilometres from where I live and 3,500 metres above sea level. But the principle is the same. Although I took dozens of photos of the area at the time, this is the one I find most interesting.
Describing what works in a photo you have taken is difficult, but I treat it as an exercise. Sometimes I don't know myself what I like and why I chose that particular photo. It's often a mixture of composition, tones, structures or the play of light and shadow. There is a certain element of tranquillity and nostalgic beauty here, even though I am depicting an abandoned object at the mercy of nature. Places like this can also be a reflection on how man affects the landscape and vice versa.
